Challenge Aspen

Participation is open to male and female military active-duty or retired service veterans with a service-connected physical or cognitive disability including: spinal cord injuries (SCI), amputations, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). CAMO also considers system disabilities including: neurological, dermatological, endocrinological, gastrointestinal, rheumatological, and musculoskeletal. Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) is recognized as a cognitive disability but falls below the above on our list of priorities.

Due to high demand, an invitation to participate in a CAMO retreat is based on the following priority system:

   1) Physical disabilities requiring adaptive equipment and education

   2) Cognitive disabilities requiring professional instruction and guidance

   3) Current inpatient or outpatient status at a VA or other therapeutic rehabilitation facility

   4) The percentage point of the VA disability rating

   5) Due to safety restrictions for adaptive equipment and instructor lifting, participant’s weight is a consideration

   6) Due to high cost of travel, an applicants geographic location is a consideration

   7) Ability and motivation to take the CAMO experience home and incorporate the lessons learned into daily life and community

Ability and commitment to provide communication and feedback through CAMO surveys to assist in building the program
